The shimmering, glowing crown was missing! There were burnt posters all over the centre of the city. Rushing guards were sprinting all over town to try and find the robber who stole the memorising crown. Racing dog's were sniffing out the robbers scent. Will they find the crown?
Buddy (Ella)
This is a story about a mansion that became haunted 1000 years ago...I was going for a walk in the woods and came across a golden tree. I had never seen it before. I go for walks on this track every afternoon and this is the first day it has appeared. It was so sparkly I wanted to touch it. I stopped myself and kept walking. Behind me I heard a bush rustling. I turned around and saw the tree in a different spot. I walked up to it and this time I touched it. My stomach started to hurt so I looked at my hands and they were turning into smoke. Soon enough I had been sucked into the tree! The tree had come alive and was taking my down a different path. It went all the way up a steep hill and at the top I saw a house. The walls were white and it was covered in stains. My head started hurting this time so I looked at my feet and they were turning to smoke. I was out of the tree finally! I had been in it for about a hour. I took another look at the house and walked to knock on the door. I tried to knock but my hand went strait through the door!I walked right through the door and a chandelier fell on my head! I passed out and woke up in a room I think it was upstairs and I sitting on a creepy chair. It was black on the outside and red in the inside. I tried to get out but I was tied to the chair. Across the room I could see a little table and on it was a box cutter. I thought that I could use that to cut the rope. I tried to move the chair and found out it was a wheely chair so I could move around. I moved it over to the table and got the box cutter and cut the rope that was around my arm's so I could now stand up. I ran over to the door and it was locked. I was looking around for a while until I realised that this was an escape room. Now I knew what I was looking for in that room. When I was stuck in the chair I had seen a key on top of the door. I walked to the door and put my hand up on top of the door. I had found it! I put the key into the slot in the door and it unlocked. I ran down the stairs and opened the main entrance door and guess what I saw. We were in the ocean floating away from land.

Gravity
For Inquiry I have chosen to learn about Gravity. Me and Nevaeh have decided to work together. We have decided to make 1 news report and 2 models. 3 things we have learnt are:
1) Gravity is made of quantum particals.
2) Gravity has been the weakest force scientists have known about for 1 or 2 years
3) Dwarf means no gravity. That is why dwarf planets don't have gravity.
Our models have 2 planets. One dwarf and one real planet. The dwarf planet has no gravity because dwarf planets are not spheres. Nevaehs one is a bit bigger but mine includes more facts. Here is a photo of us with our models-
Did you know the sun can be harmful to plants,animals and humans in lots of different ways! Yeah and have you ever thought that the sun can make lots of spots in the world even where you live into desserts. If you want to find out more about the sun read my story about the sun and us.:)
Droughts can cause Crops and plants to die and Greenhouse gases
Deserts can form because of all the heat and plants can not grow because of the heat.Farmers will have to kill their animals because they would not survive either way. Droughts can be in one place at a time for about 10 years!!!
The sun can cause carcinoma and melanoma,the deadliest skin cancer even with layers of sunscreen on.The sun can cause changes to the skin cells structure. They can appear as small spots.
With sunscreen on you can still get sunburn. The heat from the sun will dry out the sunscreen and get to your skin.Long sessions without sunscreen in the sun can cause second degree burns and blistering.
Energy is absorbed through chlorophyll which is the chemical that gives plants their green colour. Any energy not required by the plant is stored in fruit, leaves and roots which in turn gives people and animals energy when they consume plants for food.
Photosynthesis is the process that plants use. It has 3 ingredients: water, carbon dioxide and sunlight. During the process, which occurs in the plants leaves, oxygen is released into the atmosphere and glucose is formed which plants use for food. Plants obsorbe carbon dioxide from the air and release oxygen back into the environment.
Without the sun stimulating Vitamin D in both humans and animals it would be impossible for earth to contain life. Vitamin D can also be in plants to help them live. It is provided from the energy of the sun and when it is inside a human or animal they get more energy. It can protect you from a variety of diseases
It was a freezing morning and I was getting ready to go skiing. I got my equipment and started to drive to the mountain where the skiing place is. One thing I didn't know is that there is a volcano there and it was closed because it had erupted overnight. We drove for 5 minutes and when we got there I saw all the boiling hot lava streaming out of the volcano. I ran under the caution tape and got my camera out and started filming. The lava got to the bottom and it started to turn to magma on the snow. It started to turn black and it was so cool I wanted to touch it. I was so interested that the magma got right up to my feet and it was going really fast now. I got back in the car with my camera and drove away as fast as the little wheels could go. When I got home I was so excited and scared at the same time. The magma was getting closer to my house and I had to drive away. I had a really dumb idea to drive through the magma so I go in my car and closed all the windows and doors. I counted to three. 1…..2…..3…. GO! I sped through the magma as fast as I could and when I got to the end and away from the magma I was sweating. The magma burned my house so I built a new one and I never saw the volcano again.

Today Sharon's Kaiawhina group was working with Urmi and we were making earth with marshmallows.
First we put a m&m inside of the marshmallow. Next we put it on a skewer and Urmi and Becky covered them in melted chocolate. Then we went outside and waved it around until the chocolate was dry and after we went inside and cracked the chocolate on the outside to represent the tectonic plates.
The chocolate represents the crust/tectonic plates.
The Marshmallow represents the mantle- the hottest part of the earth.
The crust on the m&m is the outer core -liquid iron nickel.
The chocolate in the m&m is the inner core-solid iron nickel.

What is Matariki All About?

Today I'm telling you what matariki is, how I celebrate it, when it is and what you could do to celebrate next year?
Matariki is the Maori New Year and it is celebrated in late June, early July because there is a full moon and that is when you see all the star constellations including Matariki.
Matariki is celebrated because it is a time to talk about the future, tell stories about ancestors and invite family over for dinner. It helps keep Maori traditions alive.
Well I celebrate matariki by seeing family and doing matariki crafts but people celebrate matariki in different ways by having dinner with family or talking about the past and the future.
What could you do to encourage your family to celebrate Matariki 2022? I could bake star cookies, make crafts and make a special dinner. I would invite friends and family to dinner and tell stories of matariki.
Papatuanuku and Ranginui were close together. They had six sons and they all lived in the darkness. They wanted to separate their parents apart so they could live in the light. Tumatauenga wanted to use violence. Tane-Mahuta the god of the forests and birds had a good idea that all the brothers agreed to apart from 1. Rongomatane tried to push his parents apart with no success. Then Tangaroa the god of the sea and Haumaitiketike joined him. Together they pushed and pushed with no success. Eventually Tane-Mahuta tried. He put his shoulders on his mother and pushed them apart with his feet.All the brothers were happy exept Tawhirimatea.He was so angry that he threw his eyes up into the sky and they are the stars of Matariki. That is how we got the matariki stars.
I learnt that Matariki has a cluster of 9 sisters and from earth you can only see 9 but there are more. Matariki is the Maori New Year and a time to celebrate. What will you do to celebrate Matariki next year?
For Monday Mashup I have been going to the garden with Nigel. We have been replanting plants as part of the Eco-Action Nursery. We had to find a partner (mine was Aria) and get a plant, a bag and a circle to put on top. First you got the plant out of the container and put it in the bag. Then get a shovel and put soil in it until it is the length of your pinky finger from the top. Then grab the circle and put it around the plant and put stones on top of it. Here are some photos of us replanting these plants.

My challenges have been Maths because some of it has been hard like division.
What I have learnt

Working together- Plus and Minus
The plus is that we can get more work done. The minus is that sometimes when you work together you fight over who's doing what and who's taking it home.
At the start of the year our school got free school lunches from Compass and this is how its going.
Pluses
The plus is that they are all healthy and all good for you.
Minuses
That I don't eat them because I bring my lunch from home and I don't want to waste food.
On Tuesday 6th of July at 9:30 Tawhirimatea went on a walk to the Bridle Path.
Why did we go?
We went because we are learning about the europeans and what the had to carry and how hard it was with all their belongings.
What did we do?
We walked up a steep hill and tried to see what and how it was for the europeans.
How did I feel when we got to our destination?
I felt tired because the last part at the end was the steepest part walking up and I was worn out.
How hard I think it would be for the Europeans
I think it would be very hard because they had so much to carry all their belonging and the hill is very steep and you had to get all the way to the top an all the way down and that is like 1 and a half or 2 hours!
What was the hardest part for me.
For me the hardest part was the steep part at the end of going up because I could run down the part going down the hill.
What I made:
For the last couple of weeks I have been working on making a V Hut model. When we went to Ferrymead there was a V Hut there and heaps of chores to do around it. I am still working on it but it is going good.
How I made it:
I used Cardboard, Hot glue, Paint, and Sand, I made a garden and all the stuff inside.
What is going well:
Well my V- Hut is going very well it has almost everything it needs but I just have to make a couple more accessories and the it will be finished.
What would I do differently for my next Inquiry Project:
I would get everything done quickly and do it as soon as i could so i had more time on the add on's and the hard things.
What it looks like so far
For Monday Mashup I have been working on a Winter Wonderland board game with Lyshia and Caily. The aim of the game is to go around the board 2 times and collect presents along the way. The characters are:
* Snowman
* Yeti
*Rudolph
* Santa
* Penguin
We have been working on the cards for the players and finished the Snowman, the Yeti and Rudolph. For the base of the board we are using cardboard and for the squares we are going to draw them out and color them in blue colors and light snowy colors.
We are going to decorate the board with trees and presents and the board is going to be like a monopoly board.
What did I learn about the 1850's and 1860's from my visit to Ferrymead?
1) Children must be seen not heard.
2) Children had to treat their shoes with care because you only had 1 pair and if they were to big you would stuff newspaper at the ends until your feet grew.
3) Candles were made out of cow fat.
4) Children and adults had to make their own gifts and toys because no one had toys in stores.
5) Women and girls had to wear dresses with aprons on top and bonnets and boys had to wear knickerbockers with a blue cap and top.
6) There were no ovens so you had to cook and heat up irons with a open fire outside.
7) In school it was very strict. If you got caught talking the teacher would bring you up to the front of the room and wack you with a cane. If you called out loud or laughed you would be sent to the back of the room and had to face the wall.
8) When cleaning the clothes the girls had to lift up their dresses so they wouldn't get wet. The boys had to scrub the deck because girls would get their dresses dirty an wet.
9) Ladies were always first walking into or out of buildings and boys would hold the doors.
10) At school you did not use pencils or pens you used ink and quills.
11) When ironing clothes you had to be careful not to burn the items
12) When we were aloud to explore around we were not aloud to touch ANYTHING that would fall or break.
Immigration
For Immigration we had to pick a item off the table and that would tell you your job. Then we had to pick a piece of paper out of a bucket and see if we could go on the ship or not. Most of the people could not go on the ship. Then we got a disease. I got the rickets so that meant that I could go on the ship because I could still walk but I could not walk with strait legs. The jobs that you could get were:
* Doctor * Flour Maker * Banker (I got that) * Painter * Bootmaker * Printer * Metal Worker
* Farmer * Blacksmith * Bricklayer * Priest * Whitesmith * Miller * Builder
Then we got a big piece of paper and wrote down Our name, Our kids names, What out job was ,What disease we had and Our spouse. My name was still Everley and my kids names were Scarlet and Victoria.
V Hut
For the V Hut we had to do chores. There were specific chores for boy and for girls. The reason we all had specific chores was because the girls would get their dresses dirty. These were the chores:
*Polishing Silverware * Planting Broad Beans * Raking the Leaves *Scrubbing the Deck (Boys)
*Cleaning the clothes *Sawing Wood for the Fire * Sweeping the Floor in the House
* Putting flax on the house * Weeding the Garden *Ironing Clothes
Pioneer Crafts
Pioneer crafts was fun. We had to make crafts that kids would make in the olden days. Some of the crafts we had to make were a bird in a cage and a fish in a bowl illusion, making candles,knitting and french knitting, sewing and making out sacks and fabric.
Packing The Trunk
For packing the trunk this lady came around and gave us all 1 item to hold while she came around and told us about the ships that came to Christchurch. Then she picked up our items and we had to guess what they were and f you would take them with you on the trip to use or save them for when you got to land. she went around the circle until all the objects were gone.
The railroad was built in 1838 and used to travel from place to place. It was known as the longest railroad in the world and also one of the most rickety. The railroad started to fall apart. Everything was falling of shelf's and drinks were tossed over. The train fell off the tracks and was never to be seen again. That was when the railroad got abandoned but luckily this was a test train and there was no one in it. The train was there because they wanted to test the track because people have been complaining that the tracks were to rickety. No one has been there since 1838. But I decided to come and have a look. I made some food because I was planning to stay the night. Then I packed a tent, a sleeping bag, clothes and a blanket. I got in my car my dog jumped in and we drove to the railroad.
When we got there we made camp and fell asleep because by the time we got there it was midnight. I woke up early the next morning to explore around the forest and the railroad. At the time I was still in school and this was a project I was working on. It was a Wednesday so school was on. I got out my camera and started to connect my camera to my teachers computer. I started filming. All of my classmates were watching a live video of me at the old abandoned railroad. Me and my dog were walking on the railroad and when we got to the other side we were in the forest. We were walking around looking at all the lush green trees waving in the freezing cold wind as it was getting stronger and stronger. Suddenly we heard a noise behind us...
We ran to the bushes to hide because we thought that some animal was following us. But then we just saw a news reporter following us with a huge camera.I was going to be on the news...
Chapter 1
Me and Kora woke up in the middle of nowhere in a taxi with all of our luggage and a big bag of food. We looked around and all we saw was these big orange rocks making a pathway leading up to the road. We thought that the taxi driver had lost control of the car and fallen of the cliff but when we drove up to the road the car shot back down into the valley. Now we were stuck. We drove up the road to see if there was anything there and when we turned the corner we saw a big creature chasing us. We drove back down the road to the pathway and the creature was not there. Kora said" I saw a sign up the road where the creature was saying The Valley of Creatures on it". Then she said" Also it said if you come down here you are stuck here forever unless you get pass our course with heaps of creatures in it. Oh No. We were stuck and if we die we will be a creature in the valley. So there are so many creatures and they were once humans so thousands of people died down here and we have to get out. I was screaming my head of but then.... A huge creature that looked like a snake slithered up to us and started hissing. We drove past it an got past the first creature. The levels get harder and harder util the last creature the BOSS.
Chapter 2
Then we went to the next corner and waited there until the creature came near us. We peeked around the corner and saw a big fluffy thing with big pink spots all over its sky blue fur. OK Everley we need to pass this next monster. Kora said. Suddenly this big earthquake happened and the creature disappeared. We kept walking up the road and saw a telephone. We picked it up and we heard a creepy voice in the phone saying"I SEE YOU" ...
Alien Everley: Lets head back to mars

1 hour later…
Aliens Everley and Aria : ahhhhhhh
“ Bus crashes into asteroid and we fall into a deep dark hole underground”
Alien Aria :Where are we??
Alien Everley: I dont know but our bus is broken lets try find something to fix it!
Alien Aria: I hear something strange
Random Alien: HELP ME!!
We look around but cant find anything…..
Alien Everley: Lets go back to the bus and split up to see if we can find any tools.
Alien Aria : Ill go right you go left call my name if you find something
Alien Everley: Ok see you soon
4 minutes later…
Alien Aria : Everley!! I found tools head back to the bus and we will fix it.
Alien Everley: Ok coming!
We get back to the bus and fix it.
Alien aria: All done lets go back home to mars.
We get the space bus and travel safely back to our home at mars...
Worst Of It
I really don't have a worst part because my holiday was amazing and I loved every activity we did and every meal we ate and every place we went to.
Best Of It
My best part of my holiday was going to new places like Queenstown , Dunedin and Tekapo and one of my favorite activities was Ice Skating for the first time but then I fell over and got a big bruise on my knee.
One Thing I Would Change
One thing that I would change would be going at the start of the School Holiday's so maybe we could stay for 1 or 2 extra night at each place we went to.
Who: Me, My Sister Ena , My Mum and My Step Dad.
What : We did lots of stuff at the places we went.
When : In the School Holidays.
Where : Queenstowm Dunedin and Tekapo.
Why : For a nice holiday out and to go to new places we have never been to.
How : We booked online to find a nice place to stay when we left Christchurch.
Today in Kaiawhina groups we were continuing doing our belonging inquiry but this time we had to do a self portrait. Half photo half drawing. The whole school has to do this because it is part of our belonging to Rawhiti School. The teacher's and student's have to do one and it is basically the slide show we did but drawing of ourselves. We did not have to do the background but me and Ella wanted to to make it look a little bit more realistic.

Its the swimmers first day swimming at the Olympics doing different swimming types like back stroke and butterfly. The water is crystal clear as the swimmers walk in to start the first race. They are doing butterfly and the race starts in 3...2...1...GO! They dive into the water"SPLASH". They are off. The judges see that the 2 people at the front of the pool are tied then the person on the right shoots forward and wins the race. Next up it was my turn doing back stroke.3...2...1...GO! I was off trying my best to get to the end first. I was tie with this guy and then I shot forward and won the race!I was so happy.The other guy stomped off as the big gold medal was being put around my neck.I was heading home as the heavy gold medal is swinging around on my neck. Today for Monday Mashup we were doing slime. I wanted to make mine a baby pastel yellow but every time I tried to make it it did not turn out well. It was either runny or to clumpy. In the group there was me and Ella who were the leaders and everyone else joined and there was Miihaea, Sadie, Aria O ,Niya, Holley and Anika. The first time i tried it was to runny then the next time I didn't activate it properly and the last time I added to many ingredients. So mine and everyone else apart from Ella,s didn't work. Ella's actually worked and she made hers a light pastel purple color. When she was done with it she put the slime in a container and it was fluffy slime it was a bit sticky but not to bad. I think I know why hers worked because I bought shaving cream and it was a different brand and everyone wanted fluffy slime so she used up the rest of the shaving foam we bought and the other shaving foam Sharon gave us did not cooperate with the activator.
For swimming last week Sharon's Kaiawhina group had to do life saving. We had to pick a buddy to do it with and my buddy was my friend Ella. We had to pretend one of us was drowning and the other person had to save us. I was drowning first and Ella had to save me. We practiced until it was my turn to save Ella. When we had done practicing Sharon came over and took a photo to put on Hero for us. Ella saved me fist for the photo and Sharon said I drowned beautifully and then I saved Ella after. Sharon said that we were done doing life saving and we did not get free swim:(
Compound Words
Compound words are words that have 2 words in one. Say football. Football has 2 words in it
foot and ball or snowman that is snow and man and lots of other words as well. Say you went
out for a long day at work and you came home and had to do some more work and you office
was in your bedroom bedroom. Bedroom is a compound word as well it has bed and room in
it.
Today in Tawhirimatea we were having a Team Building Treasure Hunt. We had to do it in Kaiawhina groups. In my group there was me Hebe, Noah and D,lonte. I enjoyed it because the questions were spread out and also that when we were doing it they put some exercise into it because we had to run around the bike track and go to different places in the school. I didn't like how Me Noah and Hebe were fighting over the color of the slide. Out team worked together beause we were sharing ideas and if we thought that someone had made a mistake we would edit on to it. Next time i feel like we should not argue as much as we did today.
